The subject of control engineering was started in the Department of Electrical Engineering in the 1960s [1]. Since then it has been through many changes including being a shared subject between the Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering to become a well-established section within the Department of Electrical Engineering that provides courses for Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical students as well as having strong links with the separate control section in Chemical Engineering Department.

Today the Control Engineering Laboratory is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering. It provides undergraduate courses on linear time-invariant continuous and digital input-output systems as well as and introduction to state space theory to 150 electrical and 50 mechanical and electro-mechanical undergraduate students.
